Arrival in Singapore The trip is long and travelers were weary upon arrival but a quick shower had us ready to begin our explorations by about noon. Our first stop was at the money exchange not far from the hotel. We are staying at the Hyatt on Scott Road off of Orchard. There is a major high end shopping area here and multiple hotels. We are quite close to the MRT (mass rail transit) and are finding it very easy to use and convenient. Our first destination was to Little India. There we had lunch in Little India at a little restaurant called Banana Leaf Apollo. The signature meal there is Fishhead Curry. We ordered an assortment of choices and shared. Jane seems to be the only one in this group that doesn’t handle spice well. Food was scooped and served to us on Banana leaves and the utensils were fingers!! It was quite messy but enjoyed!! You understand why they furnish wet wipes for clean-up. (some of us opted to be American and use forks!!!) Everyone ate more than they intended for this “light” lunch. . Ernie does know the ‘special|” places to go.
From Little India we walked to Little Baghdad. Earlier we had visited a Temple… here we found a beautiful mosque. We wandered the shops etc. around the area. It has been kind of surreal for me today. It seemed strange to get off the plane and be in Singapore…. then it felt like India… and then Iraq….. It was like being beamed around the world in one day!!! Singapore is so diverse and so multi-cultural. Anywhere in town you are seeing a variety of colors and styles of dress. The MRT has cost us about $2 a card as we ride but after it’s use you can recycle the card for $1. We just trade one in and obtain another. After arriving back at the hotel for a short break Rusty, Andrew, Gary and I opted to call it a day and to pass on dinner. None of us were hungry after the lunch we had and were so tired. Jet lag had arrived in a big way. I think all of us were asleep by 8:00 and slept the clock around. Twelve hours of sleep revived us all!! Sherry and Ernie had gone out for Satay (food on a skewer).
